Twice Shy

Seamus Heaney Twice Shy

"We crossed the quiet river,

Took the embankment walk."

This is the cautious Heaney at his most cautious in an important moment of his life. The yet to be partners for life are cautious and shy.

My granddaughter Niamh set her scarf "a la Bardot" and we went one evening at dusk for a photo shoot along the embankment; the Laganside where Seamus Heaney and Anne went for their walk. A student at Queen's University unwittingly deputised for Seamus. The Lyric theatre in the painting, which houses a magnificent portrait of Heaney by Colin Davidson was yet to be built.
