Folding Sheets

Folding Sheets from Seamus Heaney's Clearances

"So we'd stretch and fold and end up hand to hand... "

In eight sonnets titled Clearances in 1987 Seamus Heaney pays tribute to his mother Margaret Kathleen Heaney, who died in 1984. Memories of folding sheets with your mother are rarely forgotten and anyone who has read the poem will not forget Heaney's revisiting of the image.

The image was captured for me by Artist Rosie McClelland and with her daughter in law and granddaughter recreating the scene.
