FAQ

Can I use Outlook - Exchange data during the outage?

Technically Yes, but we do not recommend you do. If your account has been migrated anything you do in Outlook may not be migrated after your account has completed migration.

Can I receive email during the Outlook - Exchange data outage?

Yes, you'll continue to receive new email messages. However, these messages will appear only in your Google Apps account.

Will I still be able to access my Outlook - Exchange data account after the switchover?

No, After [mig date] outlook/exchange access will be disabled.

Will I be able to work with my co-workers who are still using Outlook - Exchange data after I switch over?

Yes, you can continue to send and receive email with your co-workers in GMail and outlook. The migration of all users will take about a week, until all users are migrated you can use either system. However we recommend you only use Gmail.

Is there any limits on the types of email that will be migrated from Outlook to Gmail?

The only real limitation is Email with attachments larger than 25MB cannot be migrated. 25MB is a ridiculous size for a email, and also the size limit in Gmail for any email. Almost every mail server in the world has the same limit, so you will should not have many emails that large. However it is possible that someone in BTPS sent someone else in BTPS a email message larger than 25MB, in that case the email will not be migrated.

Can I access my Google Apps account now?

Yes, Many users have been using google email since last may. If you are currently using Gmail and have all the past emails you ever wanted then you need to do nothing.

How much time is required to set up my account in Gmail?

You'll be able to master the basics -- sending and receiving email and viewing and scheduling meetings -- very quickly. However, the time required to completely move over to Google Apps can vary, depending on how you currently use Microsoft Outlook. For example, for a typical email and calendar migration, expect to spend about 4 to 8 hours over the course of a week or so, to take training, review documentation, and set up your services. If you also access email on a mobile device, plan on spending a bit more time.

Will you help me set up and use my Google Apps account?

To help you get started with your new Google Apps account, we'll provide you with documentation that contains instructions for accessing your account, setting up your new services and mobile device, and using the services. You'll also have access to an intranet page with additional documentation and training resources.
