Classroom information

Du français, encore du français, toujours du français.

French is the only language spoken in the classroom. Students are expected to speak French only as it is our number one rule. It’s difficult at the beginning but ALL students raise to the occasion and speaking French becomes completely natural after a while.

Health Break (Snack recommendations)

We will take time each afternoon to have a health break. Snacks permitted include fruits, vegetables, cheese, yogurt, and water (no juice/milk, please). Click on the link to get ideas: http://www.edina.k12.mn.us/normandale/ourschool/packet/Guidelines.pdf.

Some of my students are allergic to tree nuts or peanuts this year. Thanks for your consideration!

During health break, we do our "sharing" : children are encouraged to bring a picture, an object, sing a (French) song, tell a joke or dance .

Birthdays

We “celebrate” birthdays by singing the famous song to our celebrants ; we also interview the celebrants to know them better. The celebrants become the teacher’s assistant for the whole day.

For the students with summer birthdays, we will celebrate them in May or June.

Homework routine

Every Friday your child will bring home a 3-ring binder (Binders were ordered but have not yet arrived) where you will find the weekly handwriting practice sheet. The following Friday, I should find the binder with the handwriting and math homework tucked in the inner pocket. (The Everyday Math HomeLinks book stays at home and you tear out the pages to send in). Also in the binder you will find fliers from the office and your child's tests from the previous week. Anything in the rings stays in the binder, and this binder becomes your child's assessment portfolio, which we will look at during conference.

Communication

I will write an e-mail every week with updates with links to interesting websites we may have used in class, ideas of what you could work on at home, and general reminders.

Our intern

Sophie Aubourdy, almost 21years old, comes from Auvergne, France. She is an only child, vegetarian and she just got her BA in English. She loves children and is very excited about starting teaching.

Library books

Second graders choose English and French library books each week on Friday. The English library books go home, and the French books stay in the classroom. Students read their French books with at least to one other person, and if it is too hard, they have the opportunity to exchange it. They also write about their book, and do a mini oral presentation about it.
