Meet Mme Livant

My love for the French language started at birth. I was born in the south of France while my father was on sabbatical. My mother says that I cried perfect French, and I have wanted to speak French ever since. I attended college at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, where I earned a B.A. (Honours) and a B.Ed. During college I was able to spend my third year abroad in Aix-en-Provence, the city of my birth, studying French at the very same institute where my parents had studied 20 years previously. Since coming to Minnesota, I have also obtained a M.Ed. in technology and education from Lesley University.

I started teaching 3rd grade at Normandale in the year 2000. Before moving to Minnesota, I taught 2nd and 4th grades in a French immersion program in Prince George's County, Maryland, for six years. After having taught 3rd grade for ten years, I was happy to return to 2nd grade. I enjoy teaching at Normandale and feel fortunate to be able to work with such talented colleagues!

My family is spread out across the east coast. My mom and brother are on Long Island, where I grew up, and I have I sisters in Boston, Manhattan, and Florida. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy playing recorder, reading, walking, and traveling. I've traveled to France with the 5th graders three times with Back2Back, and hope to go again in the near future. I also travel east just about every summer to visit family and friends on Long Island and in Maryland.

I'm looking forward to an exciting school year!
