Professional Code of Conduct: (Faith’s Law): Faculty/Staff at Zion Lutheran School are expected to uphold the highest standards of the teaching profession in their conduct with students, families, staff, and themselves. This includes:
Respecting the dignity and worth of all students, families and staff
Follow the Illinois Teacher Code of Ethics as long as it does not come into conflict with the Religious Code of Conduct.
Maintain professional boundaries at all times. These boundaries include:
Students may not be transported alone by any teacher or staff member. No student is to be alone in a vehicle with a staff member.
No staff member may take or possess pictures of students unless they are posting them on the school’s official website or Facebook page. The pictures should then be deleted from their camera (phone).
Faculty/staff members should not be meeting students outside of the school environment unless the meeting has been approved by the student’s parents and they will be in attendance.
Remember that they are mandated reporters for abuse (including sexual abuse) or neglect.
Participate in training on sexual abuse/misconduct as required by the State of Illinois.
Report any allegation of sexual misconduct, as defined in 105 ILCS 5/22 - 85.5(c) to the proper authorities.
Provide truthful information regarding past employment, including verifiable information from previous employers regarding any disciplinary action taken by that employer.
Understand that Zion Lutheran Church shall have the ultimate authority to discipline any faculty/staff member regarding a violation of this Code of Conduct, including, but not limited to suspension and/or termination of employment.
