Zion Elementary District 6 Return To Learn Plan
If a staff member or student begins to show covid-like symptoms, will families in that class be notified?
No, there will only be notifications if a student or staff member is tested positive for COVID-19.
If a student or staff has covid-like symptoms, will there be a quarantine period... 10 days... and how will instruction be during that time?
All students and staff sent home with Covid like symptoms must be diagnostically tested and remain home until the test results. If there are covid like symptoms students and staff must meet the criteria for returning to school for the illness for which they were diagnosed. At a minimum the staff or student must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication and/or free of diarrhea or vomiting for 24 hours. Instruction will be remote during the at home time.
Kids tend to move their masks under their nose. Is it ok for them to do that or do we just keep reminding them to have it covering their nose.
Please keep reminding children to keep their masks over their nose. Aerosol can still escape through the nostrils.
Will face shields be made available to staff/students? (Not just masks, but face shields?)
Yes, but a mask must still be worn.
My child has food and seasonal allergies. When allergies "act up" will my child need to stay home for the day?
No. Parents of individuals with allergies are aware of their child’s symptoms, whether it be runny nose, sneezing, or upset stomach from a particular food. Please use your judgment. CDC reports that 96% of Covid positive people report fever, cough, and shortness of breath. For example if someone has had a chronic condition and Covid like symptoms are usual side effects of that disease, use your judgment. If need be call your child’s doctor for further clarification.
How can asymptomatic carriers be identified and not spread the virus to others at school?
Unfortunately there is no way to identify someone who is asymptomatic unless they are diagnostically tested. The testing provided at the Covid testing events can help parents be more secure about sending their children to school. Also, Waukegan has a free covid testing site. Contact your child’s doctor for testing as well, if needed.
Are schools being supplied with hand sanitizer?
Yes.
