Zion Elementary District 6 Return To Learn Plan
Why is my child not attending the grade-level center that corresponds to my address?
Our bilingual/dual programs for PreK-2nd and 3rd-5th grade are being housed at a specific grade-level center which may not correspond with the center that matches your address. Our 6th-8th grade students who are in the bilingual or English Learner program will also attend one of our 6th-8th grade level centers that may not correspond to your address. These centers will be able to provide your child with the district’s academic and language program of services.
How will my students be instructed at this school?
Students in PreK-5th grade bilingual/dual classrooms will receive instruction in English and Spanish throughout the school day.
Students in 6th-8th grade who are in the bilingual or English Learner program will receive language services in their classrooms (language arts, mathematics, science, social studies) to support their academic learning.
Bilingual/Dual Program Language Allocation:
In PreK and K, 80% of the school day is taught in Spanish and 20% of the school day is taught in English
In 1st grade, 70% of the school day is taught in Spanish and 30% of the school day is taught in English
In 2nd grade, 60% of the school day is taught in Spanish and 40% of the school day is taught in English
In 3rd-5th grade, 50% of the school day is taught in Spanish and 50% of the school day is taught in English
Will my children be bused? How is this going to be handled?
Bus transportation will be provided to students that live more than one and a half miles from the center that they will be attending or for children whose normal route to school has been declared a hazardous area. For families choosing in-person instruction, the district will work with the bus company to determine if bus transportation will be provided. Parents will be contacted by the bus company to go over transportation details including pick-up and drop-off times along with other pertinent information.
