What is the Zingerman's Job Experience?

Students are matched to an available internship at one of the Zingerman's businesses. This work experience is meant to build a student's work skills, connect the classroom curriculum to on-shift work, and give a fun work experience/training that the student can build on in the future. Based on job performance and attendance, students may be considered for a regular position upon the completion of the internship.

What will the work schedule be?

This will depend on the job assignment and student's availability. Students and managers will work together to determine a schedule.

Here is what students can expect:

  • 3-6 hours per shift, 2 shifts per week (Students can work up to 24 hours per week between shifts and orientation classes)
  • Internships run from October - April
  • Internships are paid at $11.00/hour.

What is Zingerman's Basic Orientation?

All new staff at Zingerman's complete Basic Orientation. These are *paid* internal classes or trainings that all new staff at Zingerman's must attend.

      • Art of Giving Great Service
      • Welcome to the ZCoB
      • Other job-specific training

All staff are responsible for finding classes on the calendar that work for their schedule.

These classes will be taken outside of school and regular work schedules.

What are the possible internship assignments?

We determine what assignments are available each year before the school year starts.

These positions may change year to year depending on business volume and staffing needs.

Typical assignments may be:

    • Food Runner / Busser
    • Sandwich Line Cook
    • Bread Baker
    • Retail Sales
    • Service Center / Call Center
    • Host
    • Dishwasher / Prep
    • Retail / Barista
    • Event Support
    • Administration (IT, Web, Marketing, HR)

All of the Zingerman's businesses are located in the Ann Arbor area. Most businesses are located on the AATA bus route, or within close walking distance from a bus stop.
