I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable, have fun, are appropriately challenged, and understand that it is okay to F.A.I.L.—First Attempt In Learning.
To create that environment, my classroom looks a little different from many others. Instead of relying on harsh fluorescent lighting, I use lamps to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere, and soft background music plays throughout the day. I incorporate a variety of instructional strategies and learning materials to engage students, meet diverse learning needs, and challenge them to reach their full potential.
I also believe that mistakes are an essential part of the learning process. When students experience a "F.A.I.L.," we work together to identify what went wrong, learn from the experience, and develop a deeper understanding of the concept. This approach encourages resilience, perseverance, and the confidence to keep trying. Students quickly learn that they are not expected to master everything on the first attempt, and that growth comes through effort, reflection, and persistence. I believe these are valuable life lessons that extend far beyond the classroom.
