A Chair is an additional role, that one member of each Student Action Group will hold. The Chair is not more important or powerful than the other Champions - they have a few other additional responsibilities:

• They are a full member of the Academic Leadership Team (ALT) committee. The Chair is present to update other departments about what is going on in their department, and to share best practice with the other committee members. The purpose of ALT is for Student Action Groups and Department / Faculty Reps from non-pilot departments, to share updates and identify actions which they will then work towards solving. The Chair does not need any additional training to attend ALT, as their role is similar to that in other committees - they will receive the ALT agenda, be able to add to it, and then present feedback during the committee to the other members.

• They may wish to be the spokesperson for the other Champions at committees they attend together i.e. Board of Studies.

• The Chair might be asked to chair the Student-Staff Forum / Student-Staff Liaison Committee. 'Chairing' a committee involves keeping the meeting on-time, ensuring the meeting conduct does not get out of hand, and ensuring all members have an opportunity to speak. Your department should explain how chairing works, if you are asked to do this. We also have included chair training over in the 'Resources' section. 

During the academic year, you may wish to change who the Chair is of your Student Action Group. We're more than happy for you to change who is in this role - we'd just ask for you to let us know at engagement@yusu.org.
