Reflections / Rooted Identity / A Safe Place for Healing

Lord, you are the hope of Israel;
all who forsake you will be put to shame.
Those who turn away from you
will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the Lord,
the spring of living water.
Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed;
save me and I will be saved,
for you are the one I praise.
- Jeremiah, Jeremiah 17:13-14
But because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
- Unknown Author, Hebrews 7:24-25
Will we lay our wounds bare before the Wounded Healer?
Take a moment to consider this. When you discover a wound in your heart, do you bring it to Jesus? This speaks volumes of what you believe about Him.
As we see in Scripture, Jeremiah trusted that only Yahweh could provide authentic healing. Although at the time, people were trusting in riches, kings, other people, and even their own strength.
Jeremiah was willing to admit his need for healing and wait for the Lord’s perfect timing to see it come to pass. He acknowledged that God healed in a way he could never do on his own.
When we are injured, do we go see a doctor, or do we get our sewing kit out and fix it ourselves? Do our own stitches, and slap a bandaid on it? Not so much, right? And yet, do we not tend to do this very thing with our spirit?
I want to invite you to sit with Jesus and uncover those hurts which you may be unaware of or have neglected. Ask the Lord to reveal wounds in your heart that have been ignored so that you could carry on, power through, continue to do your job, provide for your family, take care of your kids, or pursue your dreams.
Jesus is indeed a safe place; intimately familiar with the wounds that you, His beloved, carry.
If you are afraid that the healing will take time, or if you are preoccupied with the possibility of disappointment, know this: Jesus intercedes for you. Even if the wounds in your heart are not fully healed on this side of heaven, we have the promise that our wounded healer will neither leave nor forsake us until in fullness of joy, we meet Him face to face.
