Throughout the history of Judaism and Christianity, regular spiritual practices have been an integral part of our faith — never an end in themselves, but rather a means to fostering intimacy and union with God. David poetically spoke of meditating about Yahweh day and night. The Gospels repeatedly affirm Jesus’ practice of solitude and prayer.
In Galatians, Paul writes, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Our spiritual practices do not earn us anything, but they create space to walk with God’s Spirit, who resides in us.
In 2018, Youth Unlimited developed the following weekly reflections as a support to our team members to ‘walk in step with the Spirit’ — to remain rooted in the Source of transformation for ourselves, our young people, our communities, and all those we serve. These can easily be adapted to any context, so please re-shape the questions as fits you!
Through this six-week, repeatable rhythm, our hope is to begin your week in a place of peace and relinquishment before God, and to finish your week with eyes to see how God’s Spirit has indeed been accomplishing His redeeming work all around you and in you.
