In a safe, encouraging environment, youth in the Bridletowne community of Scarborough take part in a free sports drop-in program at First Alliance Church 2-3 days each week throughout the summer. They also get to enjoy 3-on-3 tournaments, barbeques, and field trips to fun outdoor experiences they might not otherwise be exposed to, like 3D archery and fishing. Our summer staff are community youth who are closely mentored year-round.
DOXA Day Camps operate in partnership with community churches in Scarborough to provide low cost, high quality day camps. Children going into grades 1-8 enjoy a wide variety of engaging activities designed to complement the daily Bible lesson for their age, stage and interests.
During the summer, we disciple summer staff as they discover how God has made and equipped them to serve at our day camp sites. Through a personal growth plan we invest in all areas of their person. Many of our staff are having their first employment experience. Parents find that children at our camp experience the love of Christ as they are seen, valued and heard by our staff. We equip and enable our partner churches to build healthy relationships with families in their community through camp connections.
During the first week of the summer, we offer REMIX, a week-long urban mission experience where youth learn to centre their lives within the mission and message of Jesus. They receive training on living out their lives as disciples of Jesus, and practical service opportunities within the GTA where they get to put what they have learned into practice.
We also run two weeks of summer camp and community outreach programs in a First Nations community in Northern Ontario with which we’ve had a long standing relationship. Our youth and volunteers live out their faith by building relationships and sharing the love of God with a children, youth and families in a community that has been overlooked and mistreated for far too long.
Throughout the summer, our staff plan and implement these very important programs and, in doing so, learn more about themselves and how God is calling them to serve in their own communities and beyond. Our hope is that as we continue to build relationships with these communities, God’s love would be evident and that our youth would live out their lives on mission for Jesus every day.
There are over 200 exotic massage parlours in Scarborough, North York, Etobicoke, and York Region. Each week, the Rahab team visits 6-12 of these massage parlours throughout the GTA to make connections with the young people working there. More often than not, we are the only people these women meet in the parlours who would not exploit them. We introduce ourselves as Christian outreach workers and try to create a friendly atmosphere that begins a long-term relationships with them. We offer gifts, gospel materials and kindness, never asking for anything in return. Frequently, we meet young women who are new to Canada and have never heard of Jesus. Our presence at the front door of the parlour, albeit short, is the embodiment of the Gospel – God’s love, compassion and hope.
The Downsview & Rexdale Summer Sports Program offers affordable, entertaining and Christ-glorifying activities to children and youth who would not otherwise be able to afford access to these programs. This outreach initiative runs for 3 months of the summer for five afternoons and evenings each week. More than 100 of our participants are vulnerable to the negative influences that abound in the Downsview & Rexdale neighbourhoods.
Throughout the summer, we are encouraged to watch our staff, volunteers and participants grow in character, resiliency, self-esteem, confidence and pro-social behaviours as they take part in mentoring and group discussions. They also demonstrate a decrease in at-risk behaviours, including violence, substance use and abuse, victimization and enticement to become involved in gang activity. As the love of God is shared and shown to our staff and participants each day, our hope is that they grow in their relationship with Jesus.
As we prepare for our 10th season, we are pausing to reflect and celebrate all that has happened through this community soccer league over the years! From the very beginning, the goal has been to provide families in South Etobicoke with a (very) fun program, at a price that would allow anyone to take part. As costs go up across the board, we continue to charge only $50/person for the entire season, with every child receiving a full uniform, soccer ball, snacks each week (usually oranges), a trophy at the end of the season, a community BBQ, and more!
Having walked alongside so many families over the last ten years, we see first-hand the value of providing this program. More than just a soccer league, we know this has become a gathering place for the community, where kids can laugh, play, make friends, grow in confidence, and have opportunities to give back to others. In talking with parents, grandparents, and community leaders, we regularly receive feedback about the incredible culture and "heart" of the league, and the positive impact it has on their kids on and off the field.
Seeds of Hope is a summer camp program for children ages 7-14. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun, enriching environment where children and youth can spend the summer learning, growing, and gaining new experiences. Throughout the summer, campers participate in Bible stories, arts and crafts, sports, physical fitness, character and team building activities, and academic work such as Robotics. We also take campers on fun trips to expand their experience of the GTA. At the end of the summer, we have a five-day overnight camp experience at Camp Koinonia in Muskoka.
Primarily serving low income families in the community of Jane/Finch and beyond, we help address food security issues during the camper experience, and provide a safe and secure environment during the summer months out of school. Through trips, skill building activities, educational opportunities, and other experiences they may not otherwise be exposed to, we watch Seeds of Hope staff and campers grow in their self confidence, leadership skills, creativity, and physical abilities, all while forming lifelong friendships. It is beautiful to watch campers become Christians and grow in their faith as they are exposed to the Gospel. Many participants go on to become leaders who positively impact their schools and communities.

“Shayla” was hired to work as a cleaner at The Shop. She had moved away from home and was trying to find a place to live and means by which to pay her rent and buy food. Shayla’s hours gradually increased as she gained experience. Over the winter and spring, she learned to detail cars and do other tasks. In Summer 2021, we hired Shayla as a full time property maintenance worker. She learned to use a lawnmower, gas trimmer, gas blower, and zero-turn lawn mower. At the end of the summer, Shayla was hired as a crew member for a landscaping team. She has held this full time job ever since! She now has a driver’s license, and works in a full time, permanent role as a landscape technician.
