(All assignments will be done in class. Out of class work will only occur if students need extra time. Taking projects and supplies to Homework Club, taking projects home to complete, and using Flex time to work on art projects are all options for extra time.)

Week 1: Introduction to YSMS art class, creating a sketchbook, & review of the elements and principles of art. 

• Assignments- Elements of Art EdPuzzle (10 pts), Elements of Art Project (50 pts)

Week 2: Introduction to sculpture and form, learning how to draw using basic shapes, learning about stoneware clay and how to connect clay pieces together, & working on building clay sculptures. 

• Assignments- 8 Animal Sketches in Sketchbook (8 pts)

Week 3: Finishing the building stage of the clay sculptures, learning about 1-point and 2-point perspective, & practicing perspective drawings. 

• Assignments- One-point perspective room drawing in Sketchbook (10 pts), Two-point perspective cityscape (50 pts)

Week 4: Practicing drawing common landscape objects, learning about pen and ink techniques, practicing pen and ink techniques, start drawing a landscape image of choice, applying pen and ink techniques to the landscape, & learning about chalk pastel tools and techniques. 

• Assignments- Pen and Ink worksheet (20 pts), Chalk pastel landscape (100 pts)

Week 5: Painting bisqueware clay sculptures, looking at basic facial proportions, & drawing  a self-portrait using basic facial proportions 

• Assignments- Clay animal sculptures (100 pts), Mirror self-portrait drawing in sketchbook (20 pts)

Week 6: Learning about grid drawing techniques & using grid drawing techniques to copy a photo 

Week 7: Creating a background for self-portrait, finishing self-portrait grid drawing, learning about basic human body proportions, & practicing capturing forms and poses

• Assignments- Self-portrait grid drawing (100 pts), 16 gesture drawings on newsprint paper (16 pts)

Week 8: Using realistic body proportions to design your own character, learn basic proportions of drawing human hands, & practice drawing hands

• Assignments- Game character design (50 pts), 6 hand sketches in sketchbook (6 pts)

Week 9: Learning about Zentangles and composition & creating a work that combines hand drawings and zentangles

• Assignments- Hand Zentangle Project (50 pts)
