Another incredibly successful student blood drive!
During a Sources of Strength assembly yesterday, middle school students worked in small groups to discover individual sources of strength. In a separate session, they learned about the signs, risk factors, and help-seeking behaviors related to suicide and other mental health concerns. Students also had the opportunity to participate in a positive social connection activity as well as a mindful meditation exercise.

Celebrating Black History Month with student-led presentations and an assembly with games and student poems. It was one of the best days of the year!

2023 Senior Citizens' Luncheon
Students were tasked with creating lessons to teach to middle and high school classes about Civic Engagement and the Political Process. They chose any topic that related to either of those topics. Then, they conducted research to determine how they connect to civic responsibility. Education experts were invited to critique students to give valuable feedback on their lesson plans.
Then, on December 13, students went into classes and taught their 20 minute mini lessons based on their planners and materials they created after applying the expert feedback. #FearlessThinkers

In the "Remodeling our Classroom" project, students are using measurement and dimensional analysis to redesign a classroom. After consulting with the teacher whose room would be remodeled, students were given one week to write a proposal for the remodeling of the classroom. This proposal included a scale drawing of the space, with a calculation of surface area for all the walls for paint, table layout, and removal/redesign of furniture layout. Students calculated costs based on current industry prices and presented their proposals to local industry expert, Courtland Hyatt. Students then began the physical task of painting and redesigning the classroom. Students rotated through the tasks of painting, cleaning, taping, and eventually replacing moved and displaced furniture to complete the remodeled room. #YSSPBL
7th-grade students had the opportunity to enjoy a 3-day, interdisciplinary, immersive learning expedition called Into the Wild. Students experienced a 58-mile bike ride down the Little Miami Bike Trail, and a canoe ride down the Little Miami River. It was a memorable trip for our bulldogs!

At McKinney Middle and Yellow Springs High School, students received their schedule and connected with teachers for the new school year during Open House yesterday evening.
Students in grades 7-12 who are new to Yellow Springs High School and McKinney Middle School this year, were invited to a New Student Luncheon last week. School Counselors created a Janga game with special treats to help students get to know each other better. Welcome to all our new Bulldogs!
2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR
Yellow Springs Schools held the first of a new community-sponsored annual event called “Honors Diploma Scholars Celebration” dedicated to scholars who received an honors diploma recognized by the state of Ohio for high academic achievement. Students also had the opportunity to honor their “Most Influential Staff Member,” an employee who has had the greatest impact on their lives and academic career. #FearlessScholars #OhioHonorsDiplomaScholars #BulldogPride
