Thank you to all of the awesome cougars who participated in the Moment of Science. You rocked it! Virtual learning was a big change for us and you persevered! I'm so very proud of all of you. I received over 200 responses via the Google Form and even more emails showing off your work and cool science activities. Thank you so much.
So, did you figure out what in the world the Moment of Science is? You had fabulous inferences! Check it out...it's my tank top!!! I used a Zoomy microscope to check out the fibers. Isn't it amazing how much it magnified my shirt? So cool!
Have a wonderful summer!
Check out these two eating! :-)

I would use a _________ to measure the _____________.
Pirate
Hello Cougars! Pirate here in for Ms. Clark because she’s busy preparing Moment of Science. I hope that you are well and staying healthy. Make sure you wash your fins, I mean hands often and don’t touch your face.
Ms. Clark will provide you with weekly Moment of Science videos so you can practice your science skills. If you do not have a journal, that’s okay. You can record your science knowledge on a piece of paper, or on your device. Or, share with your parents, grandparents, brother or sister, friends, stuffed animal, toys, or pet.
Each video will have a date for the start of the week. You do not have to do the Moment of Science on that day. You can do it any day of that week.
Ms. Clark can’t wait to hear how hard you’re working on Moment of Science. She told me you’re really smart and have come so far in Science.

I would measure the temperature of the air and water using a _________.
I would measure the height of the grass using a ______________.
I would measure the length of a leaf using a ___________________.
Can you think of other objects you would measure? What tools or units would you use?
Great work Cougars on your first week of virtual learning!
Congrats to these students for answering the Moment of Science on the Google Form:
Jack, Ethan, Emma, Daisy, Noah, Atreyu, Justice, Kendall, Preston, Colvin, Owen, Kylie, Hector, Jade, LeAyden, Zayden, Josiah, Rowen, and Elijah!
Look who is outside! Use your amazing science skills to share about the rabbit.
Here are some ideas...but you can make up your own!!! :-)
I observe ________________using my _____________.
I infer ____________because ______________________.
The rabbit is a (insect, fish, bird, arthropod, mammal, or reptile) _____________________ because s/he has _________________.

I can classify living and nonliving things____________________.
I can classify things by colors, like _________________________.
I can classify by states of matter (solids, liquids and gasses) like ___________.
Great participation last week in the Moment of Science and Bunny Fun!
Shout out to these students for doing the bunny fun: Andrew, Jack, Jayshon, Madilyn, Alissa, Dean, Kathyrn, Trae, Wylon, Evangeline, Lucas, Harper, Nyo, Zayden, Colvin, Joel, Meinlise, Emma, Payton, Zach, Ben, Alex, Jayda, Preston, Anna, Mason, Rowen, LeAyden, Dakota, Manny, Becca, Makenzie, Logan, and Kendall. One other student answered, but the put an answer in instead of their name.
The bunny is a mammal! 97% of the students answered that correctly! A bunny is a mammal because it has fur, gives birth to live young and feeds the babies milk. You explained well! :-)
We look forward to your participation this week!
Here's a fun hands on experiment for you! All you need is two sheets of paper.
I will keep this activity up for a few weeks so you have time to experiment! :-)
Good luck!

I predict ______________________ because______________.
Do you predict it will keep raining? Why?
What do you predict the temperatures will be there?
You can submit your answers in the Google Form below! :-)
Great job with the Moment of Science last week Cougars!
Congrats to Mariah, Leo, Rowen F., Josiah, Elijah, Alissa, Haniya, Ayden, Jayshon, Evangeline, Jack, Meinlise, Owen, Mason, Colvin, Lucas, Helena, Giana, Joel, Dustin, Emma, Logan, Kathryn, Kylie, Alex, Noah, Anna, Mason, Jayda, Jesse, Daisy, Ethan, Kendall, LeAyden, Wylon, Wavy, Stella, Hector, Payton, and Rowen R. for answering last week's Moment of Science video. You had thoughtful predictions!!!
Ms. Clark was also thrilled with some pictures she received for the Paper Airplane Project. Great job Emma! She also received photos from Payton. Payton is a kindergarten student who made crystals. Too cool!
Earth Day is April 22nd! Earth day should be every single day in my fishy opinion. See below for a cool Earth day activity. If you make the creation, send Ms. Clark a picture. If you do something else to help the Earth or in honor of Earth day, send a picture too! You can email Ms. Clark at Nicole.Clark@yourcharlotteschools.net
Keep up the fabulous work!!!

A good title for this graph would be__________________________.
I would label the x-axis_________________________ (hint: the x-axis is horizontal and has boys, girls and unsure).
I would label the y-axis ____________________ (hint: the y-axis is vertical and has the numbers).
What do you notice about the data? Hints: How many boys participated? How many girls participated? How many all together? Is there anything else you can analyze?
What do you infer about the "unsure" bar? Why would unsure be listed?
Reuse materials to create a creature!!!
I created a fish with a plastic store bag, bubble wrap, two bottle caps, tape and a toilet paper roll. :-D
What can you make?
Make sure you ask your parents for permission!
I used the plastic bag as the body, wrapped that with bubble wrap, then taped on some fins. I glued caps on for the eyes.
Great job answering the Moment of Science for April 20th! You are all so smart!!! Thank you Rowen F, Elijah, Josiah, Jayshon, Jack, Mason J, Mason G, Anna, Gianna, Leonardo, Meinlise, Wavy, Evangeline, Wylon, Lucas, Owen, Zach, Ben, Emma, Logan, Hector, Ethan, Joel, Mariah, Rowen R, Colvin, Kendall, Hayden, Dustin, Stella, and Preston.
This week is a serious challenge. Good luck on it Cougars. See if you can try it all. If it's too much, try to answer a few. Remember, you've worked on on science ALL YEAR. You can do it! :-)
Ideas
I know this is one of the most challenging Moment of Science tasks. Planning an experiment can be a lot of work. Especially if you do it properly.
However, we have come so far in science this year. You can do it!
If you're feeling overwhelmed, try to answer one of these. :-)
Research: What kind of research would you do?
Hypothesis: I recommend a cause/effect (if/then) statement. Example: If I place seeds in a plastic bag, then the seeds will _____________ because__________.
Materials: What do we need to do this experiment?
Procedure: What steps would you take to perform this experiment? Remember to be as specific as possible so someone else can repeat your experiment. Also, how many times would you try this experiment (trials/tests)? Hint: A good scientist repeats their experiment three or more times!!!
Data: What data would you collect? What would you look for?
Variables: We need to make sure we control everything in an experiment. So, some seeds should go in a bag with nothing, but some could be placed in a bag with water. However, it's important that everything is the same except the ONE thing you change. So, the seeds and bags needs to be the same. The bags also need to be placed in the same area. You MUST control variables in an experiment to make sure your data is as accurate as possible.
Again, those are just suggestions. I know this is involved, but it's really important to have all of our students thinking about how to create an investigation. It's a great critical thinking skill as well!!! 🙂
Wow Cougars! You really worked hard on last week's Moment of Science. That one was involved! I'm so proud of you. I give you a fishy five with my fin.
Thank you to Kaydan, Ayden, Jayshon, Rowen R, Lucas, Evangeline, Alissa, Emma, Kathryn, Wavy, Joel, Eric, Ethan, Meinlise, Mason, Anna, Colvin, Mariah, LeAyden, Dustin, Stella, Logan, Kendall and Giana.
Many of you wrote that seeds would not grow in a bag. You're correct. Seeds need nutrients like soil, water and sun to grow. Some of you even listed multiple steps to an experiment. You rock. Good work Cougars. :-)
May the 4th be with you! ;-)
