The PCMS Band Program offers a wide variety of playing opportunities for our instrumental musicians. We have 3 different level concert bands, based on ability level. We have a percussion ensemble class (we call it drumline). We also have a parade band which performs annually, an athletic pep band that cheers on our basketball team and jazz band for the 2022-2023 school year. Below is a description of each band and a photos from past ensembles.
Our advanced band is our highest level performance band. Typically Gold Band is made up of students who have been studying their instrument for two or more years. Gold band's goal is to enhance all levels of musicianship as far as they can go, and to prepare the musicians for the rigor of high school band. Gold Band members are eligible to participate in drumline, jazz, parade and pep bands as well as the FBA Solo and Ensemble Festival.
Gold band performs a the most frequently of all our enesembles. Gold Band is also the selected ensemble to participate in the annual Florida Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment Concert held in March of each school year. Gold Band also performs with both Port Charlotte High School and Charlotte High School's marching bands in the fall semester. Gold band also performs annually at The Walt Disney World's "You're Instrumental" workshop.

Our intermediate band is our middle level performance band. Typically Garnet Band is made up of students who have completed one full year of study on their instrument. Garnet band's goal is to further the musician's abilities on their instrument beyond that of the beginner and push them as far as they are capable of going. Garnet band members are eligible to participate in drumline, jazz, parade and pep bands as well as the FBA Solo and Ensemble Festival.
Garnet Band performs a minimum of two concerts a year, including our winter and spring band concerts. Garnet band also combines with Gold band to form our Parade Band, which performs annually at the Punta Gorda Christmas Parade. Garnet band also performs annually at the PCMS 5th grade Riser evening, where we perform to show our incoming 6th graders how awesome our band program is.

Our beginner band is our band dedicated specifically to brand new musicians who have never studied an instrument before and those who have less than a year of study on an instrument. The basic fundamentals of reading music, playing and instrument and all the performance fundamentals needed to be a successful musician are mastered in this class.
Our beginner band is split into three different classes to keep the ratio of student to teacher low. This allows students to receive more individualized attention that is so crucial during the first year of learning a musical instrument. This is one of the keys to PCMS Bands' success!
Terrier Band performs a minimum of two times a year, including our winter and spring concerts.
Photograph below are the three PCMS Terrier Bands, all of them are combined for a mass band for concerts, 2017-2018.
PCMS Drumline is our "honors band" course made up of the best musicians that are currently in Garnet or Gold bands. Drumline allows band students of any instrument to specialize in the world of percussion music and advance their rhythmic, ensemble and listening skills to enhance those of their concert band class. Drumline members perform a wide variety of musical styles using and even wider variety of percussion instruments. Some former music performed includes using the typical marching band percussion, all of the mallet percussion instruments, african hand drums, plastic "Tubz", body percussion, pots/pans/plates, 6 foot tall PVC piping, trash cans, wooden stools...just to name a few! Drumline holds a special concert in May that showcases their performance abilities.
Annually the PCMS Band department combines both Garnet and Gold Bands to perform in the annual Punta Gorda Christmas Parade held in December of each year. Parade Band meets after school for a few weeks to prepare the music for the parade and to learn the basic fundamentals of marching. Our musicians always enjoy this festive event, and get a kick out of decorating their instruments for the crowds!
