Mr. German
Written by Hannah Baker
Mr. German, a YALE teacher and English teacher, is retiring at the end of this school year. Hannah Baker had the opportunity to interview him about his time here at Yough Senior High School and asked him about his favorite memories of being a teacher here. He informed Baker that he had been teaching here at the high school for 24 years. Baker also asked, “What was your favorite part of teaching here at Yough?” He replied, “I enjoy interacting with the students and other teachers. Every day is different, and that keeps things exciting and interesting. I like teaching at Yough because I went to school here, and I generally know what the kids are like, and this helps me relate to and understand them better.” Baker also asked what he would miss the most when we left, to which he replied, “I will miss what I just mentioned. I will miss the kids and the other teachers. Talking to and interacting with them each day has prevented my life from ever being boring. It has made the past 24 years go by pretty quickly.” Thank you Mr. German for your time, and we hope that you have a great retirement!
Mr. Craig
Written by Mary Koval
Recently, there have been some new faces at Yough High School. One of these new faces is Mr. Dylan Craig, who is a substitute teacher here and the assistant track coach. To get to know him better, Mary Koval asked him a few questions, like, “What made you want to become a teacher?” And his response was, “I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was 7, and I didn't like how all my friends around me didn’t know their basic times tables, and I always thought I could teach them and others.” She asked a series of more questions as well, “How'd you end up coming to Yough?” “I went to Yough High School and middle school, and it just felt like home.” Said Mr. Craig. “If you could teach any subject, what would it be and why?” Mary asked, “I’d teach Math or French and Indian history. Old history has always been very interesting to me,” he said.
Mr. Craig is also the assistant track coach this year. He used to run long distance in high school and one day when Ms. Newlin asked him about coaching, he immediately agreed. He says this experience has helped him to get to know a lot of people outside of substituting and it helps to have those connections overall. He really enjoyed his coaching experience this year, and said the kids are so fun and energetic to be around! He really thinks more students should give it a try!
When asked about his experience at Yough High School so far he replied, “It’s wonderful, everyone is nice, the staff is nice, and the kids here are a lot calmer and nicer than other schools I’ve been to.” Overall, Mr. Craig has had a great time so far and can’t wait to continue at Yough High School. He is having a positive experience substituting for Mrs. Gallagher due to the birth of her first child to finish this year. We wish you the best here at Yough, Mr. Craig!
