Competition Information

Below are several of the competitions our students have the opportunity to participate in as part of our program. Click on the images for each competition to bring you to the webpage with more information for each competition.

Regeneron Science Talent Search

  • Open to all 12th grade students that have pursued any area of research

  • Individual research projects only

  • Paper based competition

  • Paper and entrance forms must be postmarked by Mid November, (check site for exact dates)

  • 300 Semi-finalists are selected annually, (Mid January), and win $2,000

  • 40 Finalists are selected from the Semi-finalist group and present their research at the National level in Washington D.C. in Early March

Westchester-Rockland JSHS

  • Open to all students that have pursued any area of research

  • Seniors (individual projects or group leaders) may enter for a chance to present research via PowerPoint and potentially move on to the NY State level

  • Seniors (individuals or teams) may also present research via PowerPoint for the chance to win local prizes but cannot move on to the NY State level

  • Students must send in entry forms and abstract in the late fall and are selected to either be a Regional speaker/presenter (top tier) or a Local presenter (secondary tier)

  • The top 2 Regional Competitive speakers out of the 10-12 presenting in from each category at the Westchester-Rockland, (WR-JSHS), Sub-Regional fair progress on to the State Level competition at SUNY Albany in Mid March to present via PowerPoint for the chance to move on to Nationals.

  • The 3rd and 4th place Regional Competitive speakers, out of the 10-12 presenting in from each category progress on to the State level to present a poster and potentially win local prizes

  • Paper and entry forms must be sent via Google Form by Late October (check site for exact dates)

  • WR-JSHS competition is held at John Jay High School in Cross River, NY in late January

Regeneron WESEF

  • Open to all students that have pursued any area of research

  • Individual and Team research projects allowed

  • Students must send in research plan + entry forms in the late fall. Paperwork will have been completed before the beginning of work.

  • Students must send in their final forms and research paper by mid-December

  • All students accepted into the fair will present their research via Poster-board

  • The top individuals/teams from any area of research, win a spot to present their research at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (Regeneron ISEF) in Early May. Each year a different host city is selected.

  • Top projects focused on Energy, Engineering, and Environmental Sustainability win a spot to present their research at GENIUS Olympiad in Rochester, NY mid-June.

Regeneron ISEF

Top students from WESEF advance to ISEF. Regeneron ISEF, the world’s largest international pre-college science competition, annually provides a forum for more than 1,700 high school students from over 70 countries to showcase their independent research. The Regeneron ISEF is the premiere science competition in the world exclusively for students in grades 9–12.

Each year, millions of students worldwide compete in local and school-sponsored science fairs; the winners of these events go on to participate in Regeneron ISEF-affiliated regional and state fairs from which the best win the opportunity to attend the Intel ISEF. The Intel ISEF unites these top young scientific minds, showcasing their talent on an international stage, enabling them to submit their work to judging by doctoral-level scientists, and providing the opportunity to compete for nearly $4 million in prizes and scholarships.

Tri County Science and Technology Fair

  • Individual or team research from any area of research

  • All students present via poster board or some virtual variation

  • Students must register online in February

  • All students accepted into the fair will present their research via Poster-board at the host school or online

  • Teams are eligible for local prizes

  • Individuals are eligible for local prizes or the Grand Prize which is a spot at the NY State competition hosted by STANYS later in the year.

GENIUS Olympiad

  • Open to all students with a project in the areas of Environment, Ecology, Biodiversity, Energy, Environmental Engineering, or related “go Green” topics.

  • Individual and Team (up to 3 students) research projects are allowed.

  • Poster-board based competition

  • Students can win a spot to the Genius Olympiad competition through their local ISEF-affiliated fair (WESEF) or by sending in their research paper directly (deadline for paper submission entries is typically mid March)

  • The fair is held in Rochester, NY during Regents week. Regents exams may be taken upstate as long as your school principal and guidance counselor contact the administration at the host school (TBA) to pre-register you for your exam

  • Students and teachers are provided with free housing in the dorms (double occupancy) and free food in the dining hall.

  • Prizes are given for placing in your category.
