My Chromebook is running very slowly.

Make sure you shut down your Chromebook every night (don't just close the cover). This will ensure all programs are closed that are running in the background and any necessary updates will automatically start when you turn the machine back on.

Only keep the tabs you need open. The more tabs you have open, the slower the Chromebook will run.

My camera and/or microphone aren't working or I get a message that they are unavailable.

Restart your Chromebook (don't just close the cover). This will close any connection to previous Meets/Zooms and will allow your camera and microphone to be accessed again.

A website my teacher assigned is not opening or I can't view it correctly.

Stop by the library or email Mrs. Sudol at tsudol@yorktown.org and include a link to the site you are trying to access.

I didn't request a Chromebook at the beginning of the year but I need one now. Is it too late to get one?

It's not too late! You can request a district device at any time. Have your parent/guardian fill out this form.

How do I print?

My printers aren't showing up on my Chromebook anymore.

General Chromebook tips and trouble shooting:

Turn off your device at night. Do not just close the cover - power it down.

Check for updates: Go to "Settings," then "About ChromeOS," then "Check for Updates."

Do not use your Chromebook to charge other devices (phones, airpods, etc.) This will negatively affect your Chromebook's battery life.

If it's charged but won't turn on, hold the power button down for 30 seconds. If you get a screen that says OS is missing, hit the power button again to restart it.

If your chromebook is still not working properly, stop by the library or email Mrs. Sudol at tsudol@yorktown.org.

Chromebook Loaner Policy:

Students are expected to bring their district issued chromebooks or personal devices to school each day fully charged and ready to be used in class. The district provides temporary loaners to students whose district devices are in the help desk with technical issues. Loaners are not intended to be used by students who neglect to bring their devices to school or fail to charge them for the day.

Understanding that unexpected situations come up, the library will provide each student with one courtesy chromebook loan per quarter so they are not unprepared for class. Parents will be notified if their child has borrowed a courtesy loaner and the student will not be provided with another loaner until the next quarter starts.
