Mrs. Weiner's class is working on the five essential components of reading instruction.

Phonemic Awareness:

Awareness of and ability to manipulate sounds in words.

Phonics:

Knowledge of the relationships between letters and sounds.

Vocabulary:

Recognizing and understanding the meaning of words in reading and writing, as well, as oral language.

Fluency:

The ability to read quickly with phrasing. This is an important link to comprehension.

Comprehension:

Using a system of strategies to get meaning while reading texts.
