Welcome to Fifth Grade!

I am honored to be your child's teacher this year.  Fifth grade is an important transition year for students.  It is my hope that your child's school year is filled with enriching experiences, opportunities to explore their creativity, new friendships and happy memories.  I am deeply committed to ensuring that your child feels loved, successful and safe.

As I prepare for a new school year, I reflect on the values and feelings I hope to cultivate in my classroom community.  I believe the ability to work with others is a skill that will help your child in all of their future endeavors.  Learning how to work with others, showing empathy, and being an active listener will be areas of focus for our class.  Another area of focus will be to push ourselves out of our comfort zones and embrace mistakes.  By adopting a growth mindset, we will see mistakes as an integral part of learning and growing.

At your earliest convenience, please visit the links below to view my classroom's unique supply list and a parent questionnaire.  The responses from the parent questionnaire provide me with valuable information about your child as I prepare for our year together.

It is my hope that we can create a partnership in which we can frequently discuss your child's progress, successes, and classroom events.  If you have any questions, or would like to say hello, I would love to hear from you.  My email address is tdaly@yorktown.org.

Our first day of school is Wednesday, September 2.  Please send your child to school with a healthy, peanut-free snack and a water bottle.  I am planning to take the students outdoors for our snack break that day (weather permitting).  You can also send your child to school with a beach towel to sit on during our outdoor snack break.

I hope you are enjoying the last few days of summer.  I look forward to meeting you in person at Back to School Night and I look forward to an incredible school year working with you and your child.

Warm regards,

Tara Daly
