Title IX

Title IX - Students

Title IX is a federal civil rights law passed as part of the Education Amendments of 1972.  This law protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. Title IX states that:

“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

Sexual harassment, including sexual violence, is a kind of sex discrimination and is prohibited by Title IX.

YCSD does not discriminate against students, faculty or staff based on sex in any of its programs, activities or employment. Sexual harassment, including sexual violence, is a kind of sex discrimination and is prohibited by Title IX.  Please see YCSD Board of Education Policy #5025, Student Sexual Harassment and Grievance Procedures.

What is covered by Title IX?

Who can students go to, to report harassment or a Title IX concern?  A student can make a report about their own experiences, or on behalf of someone else.
