Author's note: This pencil drawing is inspired by the cold, foggy, windy days of surfing where its not always perfect. The old Woody behind the person is a tribute to the classic style of the original surfers and their search for waves. The dreary feel of these overcast mornings are what proves to surfers the love and dedication they have for the craft.

Author's Note: This was an assignment in art class, focusing on playing with light and shadow while using only charcoal and white chalk.

Author's Note: Octopuses are the face of the most intelligent, interesting, and exciting creatures on Earth. Apart from octopuses being rad, they inspired me to decorate my room and art books with sketches and paintings of them. I’m fascinated by the way the octopus is able to adapt to survive, and this art piece depicts the way they can camouflage.

IGNORANCE NOT BLISS
Ian Partlow, 2023
Author's Note: The ignorance of tourists can be laughable and infuriating. The lack of thought often causes harm to themselves, wildlife, and others. This piece represents the lack of respect and understanding people have of the ocean and the severe consequences that occur.
Ian Partlow, 2023
Author's Note: The repetitive routine of getting a boat ready to launch and the methodical preparedness to fish in any conditions is an admirable trait that I attempted to capture. The pale looming clouds and the dark blue water beckon the fisherman into the open. The dock reaches onward as they leave the warmth of land and take off in the search of fish.

TRAPPED
Vanessa Barragan, 2023
Ian Partlow, 2023
Author's Note: To be inside a wave is the ultimate success in surfing. To be perfectly composed while chaos explodes around is poetry to any surfer you ask. The raw power of the ocean is captured as colors change and life explodes into a beautiful array as seen in the newspaper collage in the white water.

It was created for my foundations art class. I painted a hummingbird, which is my favorite type of bird because they always remind me of my grandfather's house. I started out with using magazine photos that contrasted well for the background. I wanted to capture the vibrancy for the hummingbird, so I made sure to use saturated colors that still brought the bird forward and made it stand out.
