Our second workshop, taking place at UCL, will address visual representations of "violence elsewhere", including those in filmic and photographic form. The workshop will feature Erica Carter (Department of German, King's College London); Jonathan Long (School of Modern Languages and Cultures, Durham University); and Seán Allan (Department of German, University of St Andrews).
9/11 marks a paradigm shift in understandings of violence in Germany, as it does worldwide. This three-day conference focuses on (trans)cultural imaginings of "violence elsewhere" since that moment. Topics will range from the cultural production of Germans with migrant background, through (cultural) imaginings of insurgent violence in Syria, the cultural meaning and representations of the Bundeswehr, to sci-fi and imagined future violence.
