Table Talks

Guidelines for the Sisterhood in Action Conference Table Talks

The ‘table talks’ are small group discussions, with the aim of encouraging and supporting ideas on broadly related areas of research practice to be aired, challenged and developed.

Format

Each small group will be allocated thematically in the conference room.

MA and PhD students will be mixed together, but these are some helpful tips on how to approach the Table Talks from both perspectives:

MA students

This is an opportunity to discuss your dissertation with your peers, with a facilitator to keep you on track.

Focus on starting a dissertation, air concerns and excitements, and get a sense of the scope and possibilities of an MA dissertation here in CWS.

PhD students

This is an opportunity to talk with other women's studies students and researchers, working on a variety of topics.

Jot down two ideas around your thesis: one aspect that excites you, and one that challenges you.

Entering the discussion

Listen carefully to others, and do your best to join in; make spaces for those who are quieter than you, and be brave enough to make yourself heard if you find discussion a challenge.
