Dr Zoe Handley

Zoe is a Senior Lecturer in Language Education with a  background in Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL). Her own research in this area has explored the readiness of speech synthesis for use in language learning and teaching and Computer-Assisted Pronunciation Training (CAPT). She has also published a large-scale systematic review of research on CALL for primary and secondary English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching. She is particularly interested in teaching speaking and pronunciation and also carries out pure research in this area. Her current research explores oral fluency and its development in the context of study abroad. She is also developing projects in the area of teacher cognition for the use technology to support language learning.

Maha is an Associate Professor in The English Language Department, College of Basic Education in Kuwait. She obtained her MSc in Applied Linguistics from Edinburgh University in 2011 and her PhD in Education from the University of York in 2016. Her main research interests are in the area of Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL), with a focus on wiki-mediated writing activities, telecollaborative activities and Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC). She is also interested in technology use, teacher cognition and classroom practices.

Dr Khaled Alahmed

Khalid is a lecturer at Ninevah University, Iraq. He obtained his PhD degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of York in 2018. His area of research includes Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT), implicit /explicit instruction & communication strategies. He has teaching and supervision responsibilities in the College of Education and College of Nursing. He teaches a range of modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students, including “Testing and Assessment”, “TESOL'' and “English for Nursing''. He also supervises a number of MA TESOL students on different topics such as “Learners’ errors in oral tasks”, “Online oral tasks and learners’ use of communication strategies'', and “Teacher’s feedback and improvement of English pronunciation”.

Yara is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Education, Port Said University in Egypt. She obtained her PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of York in 2021. Her area of research involves Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL), second language writing, and peer feedback. She is currently involved in a joint project which looks into Egyptian in-service teachers' readiness to use technology amid covid-19.
