You are now a member of the School for Business and Society. The department is made up of academic staff involved in teaching and research, support staff and students.
The school was launched on the 1st August 2022, and brings together the University of York Management School and Social Policy and Social Work. Our new School is uniquely placed to lead business and public policy action to tackle complex social and environmental issues and deliver sustainable inclusive growth.
We're combining and amplifying strengths in responsible business management, social and public policy, social work and public management, to create an environment that will help develop the ethical leaders of tomorrow.

Academic staff may have the title Professor, Reader or Lecturer. They are leaders in their fields and engaged in teaching and research. Most will supervise research students and some also hold certain key administrative roles within the Department.
Research staff are members of staff employed to conduct research projects within their field of expertise. They may not be involved in teaching or supervision, instead concentrating on their research projects.
Professional support staff make the department run smoothly. They communicate important information, provide technical assistance and help signpost you to other services and support you might need within the University. their field of expertise. They may not be involved in teaching or supervision, instead concentrating on their research projects.
Students – the life and soul of the School. We have a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes with real-world relevance, and are strongly committed to supporting our students throughout their degrees, particularly through the system of individualised personal supervision. We offer a stimulating teaching and research environment in an open, informal and friendly setting. The department is pleased to welcome students and researchers from all over the world, as well as the UK.
