Participants at Universities or Colleges in Norway should usually enrol through their Department/Leader. Payment of course fees will be to the home institution. For more details see costs. If you have any questions about enrolment, please contact your home institution/your leader/course coordinator in the first instance.
In-service teachers in Norway should usually enrol via their Leader or Coordinator or Organisation. Payment of course fees will usually be through the Leader or Coordinator. If you have any questions about enrolment, please contact your leader/course coordinator
Participants in the wider Nordics (Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland) may attend as an individual, as a small independent group, or through an organised partnership between the NSC and their home University or College. For the latter, enrolment and payment will be via the home institution, for everything else, see the next bullet point.
Individuals or small independent groups from Norway or the wider Nordic region might book onto an existing course via direct contact with the NSC (nsc@york.ac.uk). If this is the case, enrolment and payment of course fees will be directly through the NSC/University of York.
Enrolment is required not later than four weeks prior to arrival in York to guarantee a place, but many institutions/Leaders set earlier dates for participants to (1) register their interest (2) to complete enrollment and provide payment/a deposit. It may be possible to obtain a place within the four week window subject to availability and payment of any additional costs: please ask your Leader if you want to join a group from your home institution or contact us directly if you wish to attend as an individual or small independent group.
After the four week window, cancellation fees will apply for participants who have registered but who need to cancel their trip. In exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to enrol after the four week deadline: please contact your Leader or coordinator, or for individual bookings contact us directly.
Course fees for participants from Norwegian schools and institutions of higher education for 2026-2027
1500 NOK per participant per week which includes teaching (Monday - Friday) and one enhancement activity chosen by the NSC. All programmes will also include a guided tour of York. Participants are responsible for accommodation, food and travel costs. Lånekassen has a special provision of financial support for participants taking Short Courses at the NSC. Please see the guide Søk om lån fra Lånekassen (in Norwegian).
For teachers and teacher education groups (KFK/GLU) whose programme includes a theatre experience and a school visit, the cost is 1700 NOK per participant for the week. Two week KFK/GLU participants would still pay 1500 NOK per week.
Course fees for participants outside Norway for 2026-2027
£250 per participant per week which includes teaching (Monday - Friday) and one enhancement activity chosen by the NSC. All programmes will also include a guided tour of York. Participants are responsible for accommodation, food and travel costs.
Most of our participants do not need a visa, but many now require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter the UK. Details for Visas and ETAs can be found in getting to York/the NSC.
Whilst travel insurance might seem like an extra cost, we strongly recommend that you do not travel without adequate cover. This will ensure that you are able to recover costs in the event of things like cancellation (check policy for terms and conditions) or travel disruption.
Group bookings
The NSC normally invoices your home institution for study fees and the costs of any pre-booked enhancement activities, any cancellation charges etc. We do not take payments from individual participants who are attending York as part of a group. We recommend that institutions request payment not later than four weeks prior to the start of your course, but some institutions set different deadlines. You should check with your home institution and ensure payment is made prior to any deadlines to secure your place.
Individual or independent bookings
Invoicing and payment is completed through a designated link which will be sent to you upon a successful booking.
Whilst the NSC very much hopes to welcome you to York, we understand that sometimes unexpected things happen and that you might need to cancel. If this is the case, the following applies:
Part of a pre-booked group: you must inform your leader immediately and get confirmation from them that they have informed us to avoid extra charges. Note that the NSC assumes that the start of the course will be the Monday of the booked calendar week. The NSC will use the date and local time stamp of any email received from the participant to their leader to calculate costs.
Individual or independent bookings: you must inform us immediately via nsc@york.ac.uk. Note that the NSC assumes that the start of the course will be the Monday of the booked calendar week. The NSC will use the date and local time stamp of any email received from the participant to calculate costs.
