NEW11 is the 11th iteration in a series of biennial workshops focused on dialects of English associated with the linguistic 'north' of the UK.
We adopt a fairly loose definition of what constitutes 'northern Englishes': this includes everything from the North of England and as far south as you can justify (south of the Severn–Wash line is probably pushing it!), as well as varieties spoken in Scotland and Northern Ireland. We also welcome abstracts about other varieties where the focus is on the ways the variety has been shaped through contact with northern Englishes.
We welcome abstracts on any aspect of linguistic research concerned with these varieties, whether that be dialectological, sociolinguistic, historical, or whatever other subfield of linguistic study takes your fancy. In keeping with the traditionally informal nature of the workshop, we welcome abstracts about ongoing work and research in its early stages as well as more developed research.
Abstracts should be one single side of A4 (12-point font; additional page allowed for references and/or figures), and can be submitted in pdf format through the Oxford Abstracts submission system at the following link: https://app.oxfordabstracts.com/stages/80783/submitter
Presentation slots will be 20 minutes for the talk (plus additional time for questions and discussion).
