Assessment deadlines

The submission dates for all assessments are published on the Assessment Schedules which are available on the student intranet.

Assessment formatting

Refer to the formatting guidance on the student intranet for information on how to format a written assessment

How to submit

Summative and formative work is usually submitted electronically via the VLE using the Turnitin Feedback Studio. The process of uploading your assignment and full details of how to submit are on the student intranet. You can also find instructional videos of how to submit, and access results and feedback, on the home page of the VLE.

Some larger audio/video submissions may be submitted via the University Deposit Service. Where this is the case, it will be communicated in the assessment guidelines and submission instructions on the module VLE site.

The eMORA (electronic Midwifery Ongoing Record of Achievement) is the document used on the PebblePad platform for practice assessment. This system activates when you save a workbook from the Resource Store to your Asset Store when saved this download is set to submit automatically so that the student's work is always submitted for assessment.   The clipboard in the Asset Store indicates this by displaying a Clipboard.  This can be viewed on the Submission Date by your Academic Assessors and the Assessments Office.

The deadline for submission/completion is usually 4.30pm on the published date. A small number of exceptions to this are published on the Assessment Schedules. This deadline is strictly enforced and submission after this point will incur a late penalty in line with University policy.

You are reminded to keep back-up copies of all work as Student Services unable to provide copies of your work post-submission should you lose access to your assessments e.g. through computer failure or theft.

Use of your exam candidate number

You are allocated a random exam candidate number when you enrol with the University. The number is shown next to the word ‘Exam’ on the back of your University card. You can also access your exam candidate number through your e:Vision student record.

You should use your exam candidate number instead of your name on closed examinations that you attend in person. You will be required to present your ID card on the day of an exam to confirm your identity.

All summative assessments that are submitted on the deadline published on the assessment schedule are marked anonymously. If you require an extension for a summative piece of work submitted through Turnitin, there are a small number of occasions when your identity may be visible to the markers. This is usually when your deadline takes your marking past the date that results are released.

When submitting summative submissions through the VLE using Turnitin Feedback studio, the Turnitin software will automatically allocate your work with a Turnitin Submission ID. This is what will provide you with anonymity during the marking process. You must therefore not submit work that contains any identifier (within the document or as a file name when saving the document) including Name, Student ID or exam candidate number as this could inadvertently breach your anonymity.

There are a small number of occasions when it is appropriate to use your name to identify your assessment rather than your exam candidate number e.g. video recordings or commentaries on presentation/ interviews etc. You will be advised if this applies to your assessment. The assessment guideline for the module will also normally state when it is necessary to use some form of identifier, such as your name, and exactly what that should be. Assume that unless you are notified to the contrary that you should not provide any form of identifier that could breach your anonymity.

It is your responsibility to correctly submit your assessment scripts anonymously. If you fail to identify your assessment correctly you will jeopardise your anonymity during the marking process and throughout your programme of study.

On no occasion should you include your exam candidate number on your formative assessments

Please note that if you have previously studied with the University your examination candidate number may have changed since you last studied. It is very important that you use your current examination candidate number when attending closed examinations.

Exam candidate numbers are not given out over the phone or by email. You are advised not to divulge your examination number to anyone else.

There is a significant difference between your University ‘student number’ (nine digit number) and your University ‘exam candidate number’ (seven digit number preceded with a Y). Your ‘student number’ can identify you as this is available to all staff; however your ‘exam candidate number’ is confidential and is only available to staff in Student Services.
