Future plans

I have welcomed the opportunity to work with learning technology and wish to continue to develop within this field. Establishing and supporting the use of an eportfolio system has been a rewarding challenge and I hope to continue developing the system's use within the Department. I'm aware that there is further capacity to use the creative elements within PebblePad as well as the assessment tools beyond its current remit documenting students' practice experiences. The system could for example be used to provide video evidence and written feedback on student's assessments within the Department's Clinical Simulation Unit. With proposals from the NMC to reduce the number of practice hours and increase the amount of simulation learning, this is something that I'm keen to explore. I will continue working with programme leads to find ways that technology can be used to add value to the student's learning experience.

In writing this portfolio, I have become aware that I have only had the opportunity to work with a small number of systems within my current role. I'm keen to learn more about other e-learning systems and find ways they can be used to help students whilst supporting programme aims. I'm aware that all our students now have full access to the Google Apps suite for example and so I will explore the potential of integration with this system and PebblePad. I also hope to establish a greater link between PebblePad and the Blackboard VLE and will look for opportunities to link PebblePad within relevant VLE modules.

I will continue to improve the online guidance that is available for the users. I am aware that the Camtasia videos I previously produced require an update following changes to the system and I am currently working on this. I would like to develop the team blog as the primary channel for information and to increase awareness of it among users. I would also like to create online tutorials to provide the opportunity to reach the large numbers of users we have throughout North Yorkshire.

Through writing my CMALT portfolio it has become clear that I must to continue to learn about the theories and policies that inform the development of e-learning. Increasing my knowledge of these areas will help me to produce accessible, secure resources that adhere to the pedagogy of the University and enhance the learning of students. I have welcomed the chance to reflect upon my experiences so far and I look forward to continuing my professional development as a learning technologist.
