I am a PhD student on the Psycholinguistics programme at the University of York. I work in both the Department of Language and Linguistic Science and the Department of Education.
My research interests include:
Second language phonology
L2 suprasegmental acquisition
L2 Mandarin acquisition
Mandarin transcription systems (pinyin, zhuyin)Â
Individual differences in second language acquisition (particularly working memory and musical training effects).
My PhD project, funded by the Department of Education at the University of York, focusses on the effect of the pinyin and zhuyin transcription systems on the perception of Mandarin tones by L1 English speakers. My research is intended to contribute to theories in second language acquisition and inform teaching and learning practices.
When I'm not researching and studying Mandarin, I enjoy playing and listening to music; cycling; bouldering and playing board games.
