Research Participant and Involvement Payment Form (Word document)
For social care researchers, public involvement is crucial for ensuring that the patient and public voice is integral to all aspects of their research. Including the voice of people with lived experience improves the quality and conduct of research and means that recommendations are more likely to have a positive impact beyond the academic community.
Public involvement relates to including members of the public directly in research and goes beyond public engagement (such as attending a lecture or reading a newsletter which are more passive). It seeks to actively involve people with lived experience in designing and steering research projects.
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) funds the Curiosity Partnership and provides lots of useful information about public involvement on their website (link below).
NIHR - I want to help with research (external link)
As the NIHR's research has mainly focused on health in the past - think drug trials and medical intervention evaluations - the language tends to be quite clinical (literally!) and refers to patients a lot of the time. We talk a less formal and medicalised approach when discussing social care but the principles are the same - public involvement enhances research quality and plays a vital role in the shaping a project.
Meeting papers and resources will be available here when they're published. We'll try and keep paperwork to a minimum - promise!
They will also be emailed to all Curious Minds meeting particiapnts and/ or posted in hard copy, depending on attendee preferences.
