The YMCA of Leyte is one of the local YMCAs in the Philippines. It is registered as a non-stock, non-profit organization that primarily serves the welfare of the youth. It started as the YMCA of Tacloban in 1976 (a branch of the YMCA of Cebu). To commemorate its 10th year of founding in 1986, it was renamed into what is now known as YMCA of Leyte. The association is a regular member of the Federation of YMCAs in the Philippines.
To develop a well-balanced Christian personality, mission in life, and usefulness of individuals, as well as to promote unity among Christians and understanding among peoples of all faiths, to the end that the brotherhood of men under the Fatherhood of God may be fostered in an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding;
To promote, on an equal basis, the physical, mental, and spiritual welfare of the youth, with an emphasis on reverence to God, social self-discipline, responsibility for the common good, respect for a person’s dignity, and the observance of the Golden Rule;

It seeks to unite those young men and women who regarding Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, desire to be His disciples and associate their efforts for the extension of His Kingdom. It cooperates with churches in their ministry and teachings but is not aligned to any one denomination. It welcome persons of other religion to join the programs.
Its aims are formulated by the association themselves. It appeal for members and leaders and support those who wish to work for these aims. Leaders and volunteers are alert to guard the voluntary nature of the association.
The basic units of the movement are the local associations. These are united through national area groupings in a world movement which is given meaning and purpose by the World Alliance and by a multitude of direct relationship to local association lives unto itself.
It is socially conscious and conscientious. It helps its members to be informed and concerned about public policy, nationally and internationally. it aides them in developing capability in discharging the responsibility of citizen. It offers opportunities to join in nation building but all these are done without political alignment.
