Mr. Venerando C. Arbas retains his presidency of the YMCA of Leyte for 2024. Elected during the recently concluded corporate meeting held on December 10, 2023 at N Our Roof Restaurant here in Tacloban City, Boggs, as he is commonly called by his friends, has been a Y'er during his college days, and has served the association as professional staff after graduation in college. He was first elected president of the association in 2019. Despite the pandemic Boggs sustained his commitment to the association. Aside from being the president of the YMCA of Leyte, he also seated in the constitutional commissions of the YMCA of the Philippines.
Other officers elected for 2024 are: Dr. Edward Y. Chua (Vice President); Dr. Felix Dexter O. Barrion (Corporate Secretary); Mr. Jorge Yu (Treasurer); Capt. Arturo V. Beringuel (Assistant Treasurer); Mr. Clark O. Cabelin (Auditor); and Dr. Nestor L. Abrematea (Public Relations Officer). Also elected as Board Trustees are: Dr. Arsenito B. Colaba; Mr. Jaime Dechos; Atty. Vispero L. Mayor; and the Youth Trustee Mr. Jayson C. Oledan.
“We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future.” Such a powerful quote by former US President Franklin D. Roosevelt is both shared by this year’s Red Triangle Service Awardees Mario Gomez and Jorge Yu, who have been serving the association in various capacities for more than three decades.
The award and recognition were among the highlights of the corporate members meeting held on December 10, 2023, at N Our Roof Restaurant. The Red Triangle Service is the highest award given by a local YMCA to its active members and leaders, thus qualifying them for a national service award. Mario Gomez was twice a past president of the association and currently sits as an honorary member of the board. Jorge Yu was a past president of the association and currently sits on the board as treasurer. Indeed, Mario and Jorge are 'true friend' of the youth and always carry the motto: "Serving youth so that youth may serve better."
Awarded with Silver Triangle Service were Venerando Arbas, Nestor Abrematea, and Edward Chua.
Bronze Triangle Service Award were given to Andrie Christopher Arbas, Rachele Nina Arteche, Marlon Bacala, Angielyn Basilan, Arturo Beringuel, Felix Dexter Barrion, Romeo Dax Calamaya, Marilou Grego, Ana Asumpta Perez, and Ma. Chharito Suyom.
Certificates of Recognition were given to Jayson Oledan, Juie Ann Gadin, Joseph Vincent Maneja, Ruel Maghanoy, Senen Jude Javier Ruetas, Fhea Rose Suyom, and Nhecole Velarde.
He was there when it all started!
In a unanimous vote by the members present during the recently concluded corporate meeting held on December 10, 2023 at N Our Roof Restaurant, an honorific title as Chairman Emeritus was conferred on Past President Victor A. Domingo for his enduring dedication and commitment to the association since its inception in 1976.
Chairman Emeritus Victor Domingo epitomizes the real meaning of the dictum "Once a Y'er, always a Ye'r." As of this date, he is the only surviving charter corporate member and board director, and he has uninterruptedly served as lay leader of the association.
All hail the Chairman Emeritus!
Synergy - combined effort being greater than parts: the working together of two or more people, organizations, or things, especially when the result is greater that sum of their individual effects or capabilities.
A perfect description of what happened at the V&G National High School where the EVSU College-Y Club and the V&G NHS Hi-Y Club converged to do the Brigada Skwela (school clean-up). Headed by its president Rachele Nina Arteche, and RYLTI Scholar Angielyn Basilan, members of the EVSU College-Y Club went to V&G National High School to support its Hi-Y Club. The V&G NHS Hi-Y Club is a "baby club" of the EVSU College-Y organized sometime in 2018. After the Brigada Skwela, an orientation of the new Hi-Y Club members was conducted, followed by an election of its new officers. The activity culminated with the donation of new cleaning tools, first aid kits, and printer inks to the host Hi-Y club.
The occasion was graced by the presence of the ever supportive adviser of the Hi-Y Cub Ms. Marilou P. Grego, other school teachers and officials.
