What is Community-Based Learning?
Community-Based Learning is also known as Project-Based Learning or Real-World Learning.
At its core, CBL is a partnership between a faculty member, a course they are instructing, and one or more local organizations. Its purpose is to leverage the knowledge, skills, creativity, and energy of a class of students to achieve a goal that has been identified by a Community Partner.
By design, CBL is reciprocal - it has demonstrable benefits for everyone involved. CBL partnerships are driven by learning outcomes that are identified at the beginning of the semester.
The timeline of CBL partnerships can range significantly. Some CBL partnerships last for a full semester, while others may last a week or a month.
