This is Chaya who graduated a few years ago from YHS. Ms. Luna caught up with her when she visited the Culinary Arts program at San Bernardino Valley College. This program not only teaches you how to cook as a professional chef, you also learn all the skills and knowledge necessary to run your own restaurant. Chaya was an excellent student in TPP participating in our weekly cooking labs at a high level and we know she will continue that success at SBVC. Do you know that really high note in the older song by Aha "Take On Me?" Chaya can hit that note on the regular, she can sing with the best of them!
Ms. Luna was able to check in with one of our students, Emily, at San Bernardino Valley College's culinary program. Ms. Luna had a delicious lunch on her visit provided by the students. Students work in groups in this culinary program and perform different tasks within a restaurant setting. This day Emily was on the dish crew. Chaya, above, was on the serving crew the same day. Emily was a stand out student during our cooking labs and is now in her 2nd year at Valley college. We could not be prouder of her!
Employee of the Month: This is Shawn and he had great success in the TPP 11th grade work program with teacher Megan Shaangelyan. The 11th grade TPP course is brand new to our YHS campus and Mrs. S is doing excellent work. Shawn started working over the summer at the 99 cent Store Only and they loved him so much that we renewed his work contract with our class for the 12th grade school year. He will have the opportunity to work 300+ hours through the year. He has the opportunity to earn over $4,000 this year after taxes, all paid for through our state funded program. Thank you CA, and also thanks to Shawn for his ongoing efforts to maintain his excellent grades while earning some hard earned cash.
