“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” Edgar Degas

The Arts Department is happy to welcome back Ms. Sabrina Buffa in Music, and welcome LTO teacher, Ms. Rachael Grice, who has brought her energy and talent to Visual Arts and Drama. The Arts students, the core of our creative spirit at STL, continue to paint, play, and perform not only for their courses, but for our STL community.

MUSIC:

On December 6, our music and choir students, under the direction of Ms. Doria, Ms. Buffa, and Mr. Ng will share their musical talents with our feeder schools, St. Anne, St. Mary Immaculate, and Father Henri Nouwen, to inspire our future STL students! All of our bands, Junior, Intermediate, Senior, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and the Choir, are busy preparing their pieces for our Annual Christmas Music Concert on December 13 at 7:00 pm at STL.

DRAMA / VISUAL ARTS

On November 10, our grade 11 & 12 Drama students paid tribute to the Canadian men and women who made sacrifices while representing their country, at the battle at Vimy Ridge. The Remembrance Day performances, commemorating the 100th Anniversary of this battle, was a moving drama, viewed by all staff and students.

In September, our senior Visual Arts and Drama students enjoyed the sights and sounds of New York City on our eighth annual Arts trip. Some highlights of this much anticipated yearly journey into the big apple, included two Broadway plays, the Metropolitan and Moma Museums, the Rockefeller Centre and Central Park!

FIELD TRIPS

Our grade nine Visual Arts students, many of whom have had their art -work on display throughout the halls of STL this month, look forward to honing their artistic skills at the Toronto School of Art on Dec. 7, where they will learn sculpture through artist run workshops. On December 14 the grade 9 and 10 drama students will enjoy a production of A Christmas Carol at the Winter Garden Theatre, while the grade 11’s and 12’s will attend the musical, Bat out of Hell on December 20th.

Grade 12 Drama Production: Wednesday, Dec. 7th, STL Theatre @ 7:00pm

Ms. Santagato’s Grade 12 Drama class are currently rehearsing their swan song production, Almost, Maine by playwright, John Cariani. The play takes place in a small fictional town, “Almost”, in the state of Maine on a cold, winter evening when the beautiful northern lights shine across the evening sky. The series of vignettes highlight characters who experience the life altering power of the human heart in often humourous, sometimes surreal moments.
