Congratulations to grade 12 student Faith Ruetas on her podium finish at the 2019 Skills Canada National Competitions (SCNC) held in Halifax, Nova Scotia on May 28 & 29th. As a representative of the YCDSB on Team Ontario, Faith finished 3rd in the country and earned her bronze medal in "Information Technology Software Solutions for Business" event by showing her proficiency with Office applications to deal with tasks and challenges in the world of business. The Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) is the only national, multi-trade and technology competition for students and apprentices in the country. Each year, more than 550 competitors from all regions of Canada come to SCNC to participate in over 40 skilled trade and technology competitions.

From May 13 to 17, Mira Bhattacharya (grade 10) and Yaseen Abbas (Grade 11) traveled to Fredericton NB to represent the York Region at the Canada Wide Science Fair. They competed against approximately 500 students from across Canada.
The Science Department would like to congratulate Mira on winning a SILVER Medal in the Intermediate Division and a $2000 York University Stem Entrepreneur Bootcamp Scholarship Award and Yaseen on winning a SILVER Medal in the Senior Division.
Congratulations to all students who participated this year at the YRSTF this past April and we hope more students will consider entering the YRSTF 2020 for their chance to win a Gold medal and compete at the Canada Wide Science Fair in Edmonton in May 2020.
