Father Michael McGivney Catholic Academy offers students the option of completing a 2, 3, or 4 credit Co-op program. The Co-op programs combine classroom learning with on-the-job training to enhance the educational experiences of participants.
The program assists high school students bound for university, college, apprenticeship or the workplace in making career decisions and developing essential skills, knowledge and attitudes.
This course consists of a community-connected experience and a cooperative education curriculum focused on developing skills, knowledge, and habits of mind that will support students in their learning at school and beyond, today and in the future, as well as in their education and career/life planning. Within the context of the community connected experience, students will apply skills, knowledge, and habits of mind that will protect and promote their health, safety, and well-being and that will strengthen their inquiry, decision-making, and leadership skills. Students will create and implement a learning plan that meets their particular interests and needs, reflect on their learning, and make connections between their experience in the community and other aspects of their lives.
The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program is a high school program that allows you to try a huge variety of apprenticeship-based careers in skilled trades, starting in Grade 11 or Grade 12 through the Cooperative Education program.

Online Research Coop
The case study placement program is designed similar to a capstone project and uses problem based learning (PBL) to develop research-based solutions to reach world issues. Students work in small sector groups (2-6 students), assigned based on their interests, to study and develop a research proposal to address an issue in their field related to an overall theme. The 2020 case study theme is the impact of pandemics (past and present). Students work individually, in their teams, and in collaboration with other teams to develop and present a formal research proposal to address their chosen issue.
