Bright colors and multiple types of materials are key traits of pop art. For my design, I made the colors pop by choosing contrasting color palettes for the letters and the background. Though I only used one piece of paper, I incorporated the collage-like look by changing the letter arrangement to look like they were cut out of different things. I also drew the background to contain many different patterns. I chose Sirukota for my font. I chose this because I liked the clean, simple look of the letters. Despite the letters being simple, they are not boring. I did not want the font to be too big or bulky, so this was a good choice for what I wanted. While completing this assignment, I learned a few things. First, I learned that contrast is not simply about where the colors fall on the color wheel. It is also about the intensity of the color. This is why my background is more pastels and faded colors while my letters are dark and intense. It adds to the contrast. I also learned about the importance of planning. I used my planning page to test color combinations, patterns, and to keep track of which colors I was using. It was very helpful and I would not have had the same result had I been less thoughtful in my planning. However, I learned that I don't have to always follow my plan exactly. There were many patterns in my sketch that I did not end up using because of how my piece was turning out. They just wouldn't have worked. It was important to find a good balance.
