End of semester reflection:
I think I achieved both of my goals for this semester. The self portrait really helped me draw from a reference photo, and the unsung hero project helped me understand how to mix colors and their meaning. People and patterns still inspire my art but now after the watercolor unit I am inspired by landscapes as well. This class has expanded my understanding of art and I will continue to use skills I learned in this class in the future. I think an artist is just anyone who makes art, whether that be painting, sketching, sculpting, making music, etc. I don't think there should be a "requirement" for calling yourself an artist, just that you make art. With this definition, I would consider myself an artist because I do enjoy making art and have made a variety of types of art.
I'm inspired mostly by people and patterns in my art. I don't have a lot of art experience, but when I doodle on a worksheet or reading, I almost exclusively draw faces and patterns. I would love to learn how to accurately draw from a reference photo. I've tried before and struggle to make my art match the reference. I also want to get better with color. This might be hard for me because I usually sketch with a pencil, so I don't understand much about how color goes together. However, I believe I can overcome this with lots of practice. I think I am good at receiving feedback and improving my work based on the feedback I get.
