Purpose:
To look closely at half of a portrait and complete the portrait by drawing similar features;
To practice drawing facial features: eyes, nose, and mouth
What worked well for me on this half portrait was the shading, and the proportions of where the features are on the face. I think I also did well on the nose and lips when adding detail and for the nose really bringing it out with shading instead of outlining the actual shape of the feature to make it more realistic. I had trouble with drawing the eyes out of everything, making them the right shape and size, and also being very careful with how I draw the pupils because on eyes one small mistake can make the whole face messed up. When drawing the eyes it was also hard to make them super detailed because the pencil can smudge. I also had trouble with the eyebrows, and the person in the picture has very upturned and arched eyebrows that it was hard for me to replicate it. Overall my sense of the face proportions was good, but some of the features were not drawn too accurately on their own.
