To demonstrate understanding of accurate perspective of cylinders and cubes;
To use a variety of mark-making strategies to practice and demonstrate the value changes on forms, helping them appear 3D
To practice using a variety of media to draw a still life
The things that I found to be working well for me are the methods of stippling and controlled scribbling with either a pen or sharpie marker. with these techniques and tools, I have been able to create a relatively believable piece of art that appears to have depth and tone. my notice of detail in my pieces with the pen or marker is evident and positively contributes to the mood of the drawing. In general, I think that my still lifes were pretty good but the difference between my pen or marker and my ink drawings is noticeable.
There were a few things I found especially challenging during the still-life drawings. the most prominent one was using the bamboo quill and India ink. With the quill I was getting very frustrated because I could only make like two lines before having to dip the quill back into the ink and start again. also with the quill the line was never even, when I would first put the quill down, the line would be very thick and then it would thin out right away creating uneven lines on the drawing. Also, the cross-hatching combined with the quill didn’t work out because it was super difficult to not create stripes on my shadows. Overall I didn’t like the quill and cross-hatching techniques at all.
