In grades K–5, mathematics instruction is delivered through a variety of approaches, including the Everyday Mathematics curriculum. The major components of our math program are outlined below:
Encourages children to think mathematically with real-life connections (e.g., measuring their own hands).
Builds confidence and familiarity with math concepts through meaningful activities.
Deep understanding of number sense and place value supports learning computation algorithms.
Frequent exposure to skills and concepts before mastery is expected.
Approach mirrors literacy instruction: students explore, practice, and gradually build mastery.
Emphasis on vocabulary and conceptual understanding.
Number line activities and work with the 100’s grid build strong number sense and place value foundations.
Instruction supports automaticity of facts, place value understanding, and relationships among operations.
Focus on decision-making about strategies rather than following rote steps.
Students learn to explain and communicate solutions clearly.
Students play engaging games that promote practice with numbers.
