Medium: porcelain, 7 in x 3 in x 4 1/2 in
Project Goals:
To become familiar with using a known species as an art subject
To learn directly from a working artist, Tim Christensen
To become acquainted with basic ceramic vocabulary
To create an etched ceramic sculpture
Visiting Artist: Tim Christensen
During the time Tim Christensen worked with us i most enjoyed how much Tim communicated and worked with us and how he always told us cool stories about his life.
Reflection: For my artwork, I chose a moose. I chose this animal because a moose represents Maine, and it is a really cool animal. The systems I chose and used for my artwork were: a river, plants, moose hooves, pine trees, antlers, hunters, and the state of Maine.
I created my artwork with clay and glaze. To make the moose, we made a pinch pot for the body, and then we made holes in that and made holes in pieces we connected to the anima,l like the head or legs etc and then we covered the work with black underglaze and scratched off glaze to sketch on the work. For this artwork i used many different tools to sculpt and design my moose.
The big idea behind my sculpture was to show how important moose are to Maine and how much of an impact they make, and to show how much they are hunted, and if they are hunted too much maine will not have moose anymore.
The most interesting part of this project was the etching of the systems and patterns because it was cool to see how a moose impacts the environment and to see how the sketches turned out.
