Purpose:

Choose fonts that express personality;
Create a pop art name design using bright colors and patterns;
Create a name design that shows quality craftsmanship.
Pop art is a style of art that mashes bright, contrasting colors, patterns, and unique designs to create art pieces that stand out. These characteristics are quite prevalent in my piece, as seen in the contrast between warm and cool colors in the foreground (letters of my name) and background and how the name quite literally pops out of the borders. I also chose unique and fun patterns to add an extra aspect of interest to my piece, which represents pop art as well.
For my font specifically, I selected it for various reasons. Not only did I truly just love the font and how it appeared on the page, but when I looked at it, I was able to vividly imagine all the opportunities for unique colors and patterns, leading it to inspire the piece as a whole. I love the mash between fancy and fun, and overall the font really brings the whole piece together.
From this assignment, I learned and developed many skills, like color combinations, pattern balances, and the difference between low- and high-intensity colors. For starters, I learned a lot about color combinations. Through this assignment, I was really able to better understand how to combine colors, especially warm and cool, to really make my piece pop. An additional thing I learned was how to find the balance between complex and simplistic designs. One struggle for me in the past was creating something that wasn’t too overwhelming. In this piece, I tried to find balance with a more complex background but a simpler foreground. And lastly, I learned more about low- and high-intensity colors. I experimented with evoking emotions and vibes from using different intensity colors, primarily focusing on high-intensity as it fits more with “pop art.” For this project, we looked at trying to generate excitement and high energy, and with this I was able to really consider which colors would create an atmosphere like that.
