One reason that I have for making art is that the process calms me. Living in a stressful and constantly-changing world is challenging for everyone, including me, and the process of making art is one that takes me away from the constant notifications and one into a space where I can create. Another reason that I have for making art is to observe the world in a different way. It’s easy for anyone to get stuck in the same dull routine, and to take some time to explore new pathways of creativity is one that I am looking forward to during this semester. My final reason for making art is to create a tangible painting, sculpture, or other form of art that I can be proud of and show to others. This feeling of pride in a work that one has spent time on is one that I have been missing, and I’d like to get back to that feeling throughout the course of this semester.
I specifically want to learn the skills of drawing live objects, especially humans. I’ve always liked to draw, but I’ve never been the best at it. Throughout this course, I would like to learn those skills and improve on my abilities as an illustrator. I also would like to learn painting skills, as painting is the next form of drawing. I’m less interested in the three-dimensional forms of art, but I am still excited to learn about art media like sculpting and other 3d creations.
